So for you to decide better we have come up with the unbiased Lenovo ThinkPad T440 Review 2018.
Owing to its productive nature in a durable frame, this laptop really packs a punch when it comes to working. Powered by a high-end i7 processor, long-lasting battery, and considerable RAM, this machine is designed to boost productivity and output any time, any place, anywhere.
Lenovo ThinkPad T440 Review 2018
The basic design is almost similar to ThinkPad T431 having the same design language as other ThinkPads. It comes with smooth finished, black-casing with a carbon-fiber lid and magnesium chassis. A ThinkPad logo is present on the top lid with a red light in the letter “i” which blinks when the laptop is put into Sleep Mode. Unlike the older models, the ThinkPad T440 is refurbished with a plain black matte lid, instead of soft-to-touch, rubberized lids.
It is built with a roll-cage to minimize physical damages which may occur while falling out of the hand. Solid hinges let the screen to be bent by 180 degrees and a water-resistant keyboard to keep the machine running powerfully. It is certified to have passed several military-standard quality control tests, in terms of parameters like humidity, dust, temperatures, and vibrations.
The ThinkPad is considerably heavier than its peers like the Toshiba Tecra, as well its previous model the T431. This is largely due to the fact that it features a 14” touchscreen and 0.4lbs of battery weight. The touchscreen digitizer weighs between 1-3 lbs. the total weight stands at 4.2 lbs, with the battery inserted. The dimensions are 13.03” X 8.89” X 0.80”.

The ThinkPad t440 has a 1920 X 1080 touch display which displays sharp and clear images. In spite of being a tinge glossy, the panel does not reflect back light and provides extremely wide-viewing angles. The 10-pointer touchscreen is extremely responsive and t440 is configurable with 1600 X 900 & 1920 X 1080 non-touch panels. The lux meter reading was registered at 294, which was much higher than its predecessor t431 ( 202-lux in 1600 X 900 panel).
The Lenovo ThinkPad has set the golden standard for the typing game. The t440 takes up the game notch higher. It has a backlit keyboard with an accurate tactile response, good key spacing and an ergonomic curved shape (every key) to limit typing errors; thus preventing typing of adjacent characters.
The t440 has a good typing feedback. It does get heated up with time, but remains cool, allowing a better opportunity for typing business. The keyboard backlight had 3 modes, namely: OFF, LOW, and HIGH. The LOW setting is properly adjusted for darker environment whereas the HIGH is too bright for the eyes- even harmful maybe.

Trackpoint & Touchpad
The post on Lenovo ThinkPad T440 Review also covers the details of the touchpad and TrackPoint. Like any other model of the ThinkPad series, t440 has a buttonless touchpad and a TrackPoint pointing stick. The stick allows touch typists to move the pointer without taking hands off the home key row. The red TrackPoint is preferable to any other owing to its conspicuous appearance and precise navigating capabilities. the pointing stick is extremely accurate and feels good to use. However, the left, right and scroll buttons are located on top of the touchpad. This takes a greater force to push down on these buttons than the rest of the delicate keyboard operating keys. A point of dissatisfaction is that Lenovo ThinkPad will continue with this trend in all of its upcoming models to be launched soon.
There is room for several important ports and jacks that are absent in several other similar game-changers, including Lenovo’s very own X1 Carbon. On the right-hand side, there is- a headphone jack, a SIM card slot (optional mobile broadband), a 4-in-1 memory card reader. There are also present- a USB 3.0 port, a Kensington lock slot and a VGA port ( to accommodate old-school projection devices without DisplayPort facility). On the left-hand side, we have a SmartCard reader, a DisplayPort and two USB 3.0 ports (totaling 3 USB 3.0 ports).
The HD webcam is powerful enough to capture dark and even shadowy images, giving a clear, bright result on the screen. But too much of brightness led to a slight image distortion caused by visual noise. It comes with in-built dual-array microphones for better functioning. Settings app can be used to set the mic level to pick up a single voice or multiple voices simultaneously.
When it comes to the audio, it is fine for conferences and watching your favorite movies. However, the music playback came out real disturbing. The speakers were registered to have a lower than average (84 dB) sound level- reading at 81 dB. When pressed against a surface, the sound appeared quite muffed. The in-built Dolby v4 audio software bears the entire responsibility of providing with the music quality by default; without this feature, the sound quality becomes synonymous with noise.

Let’s talk about the working firepower in this gadget. It has a 1.6 GHz Intel 4th Gen Core i5-4200U processor, 8 GBs of RAM, and 256 GB LITE_ON SSD. The entire package is very capable of any kind of heavy-duty productivity demands.
The 256 GB SSD can boot Windows 8 in 14-16 sec which is faster than its predecessor t431 model (16-18 sec) and average clocking time 28.4 sec. the drive takes 27 sec to complete File Transfer test (copying 4.97 GB of mixed media files, at the rate of 188.5 Mbps).
ThinkPad T440 takes 5 min 14 sec to complete OpenOffice Spreadsheet Macro Test which is about 1:07 minutes faster than the 6: 21-minute average category timing.
PCMark 7 is a renowned synthetic benchmark that gave an impressive 4970 rating to T440- well above 3445 rating for the average category and 2884 rating of Lenovo T431.
The Intel HD 4400 integrated graphics chipset is a modest one. It scored a fair 930 on 3Dmark11, the leader in the synthetic graphics benchmark. This is quite below the average 962 rating but well high above ThinkPad T431’s 530 reading. The gameplay was definitely not up to the mark and high-end games like World of Warcraft series proved to be dissatisfactory on the t440; the initial frame rate 29 fps dropped to 15 fps when switched to special effects-well below normal standards.
There are 2 varieties of batteries available: a 3-cell, 23.2 Watt-hour unit and a 6-cell, 72 watt-hours higher capacity battery. In addition to that, there is a non-removable 3-cell internal Li-ion battery.
With the 3-cell battery, performance lasted up to 7 hours ( with continuous net surfing via Wi-Fi & 50 % brightness), which was greater than the average reading by about 6 min 27 sec. With the higher capacity battery, T440 lasted an astounding 14:36 hours longer than any battery ever tested till date. The only catch with the high-end battery? It butts out 0.5” at the bottom and adds an additional 0.4 lbs to the already bulky T440.
T440 remained cooler than the T431 during the entire evaluation period and registered 27˚C on the touchpad surface, 28 degrees on the keyboard and 31 degrees on the bottom side.
It is a Windows 8 based OS and comes with a few useful tools and options. It has complete control over the microphone, webcam, and power settings. The Lenovo settings can be used to turn the machine into a portable hotspot for multiple other devices. The QuickCast feature enables transferring of data between ThinkPads- if they are on the same network and powered by Windows 8.
Quickcast can also be used to connect to an Android device but in that case, the phone can be used only as a touchpad and for changing display modes. In-built Lenovo Companion provides a shortcut to a variety of apps, services, and promotional videos featuring partner companies and enterprises.
The warranty period is certified to be 1 year- applicable to computer parts and labor. The warranty can be extended up to 4 years, encompassing accidental damage protection/ on-site services for a certain fee.
